Here’s where it all started...
In 2005 my father, Jim Misiniec, suggested on more than one occasion we should think about getting Boer Goats. “There’s No Way I’d ever own a goat!” was always my reply. We had planned on getting a couple pigs since our daughter, Allie, was to start 4-H in 2006. 4-H was a big part of my life and I wanted to pass that tradition on to my children just as my Dad did for my siblings and I. As a boy he grew up farming and raising Angus cattle as a part of Misiniec Farms. He and my mom raised us on a farm showing cattle and hogs as 4-J Livestock. In December of 2005, I lost the man that I thought could never die. He had been battling colon cancer for over five years and after many roller coaster rides of ups and downs, he lost the fight. After he passed, Allie and my husband, Paul would not let the goat thing go. So after much debate (Paul hates pigs and I really did not want goats), we began to research the boer goat industry. On January 12, 2006 we purchased our first goat, a 10 month old buck named Maestro, from Tri-State Boer Goats on the Kenwood Farm in Sunman, IN. And thus, Legacy Farms was born. The legacy and traditions of my childhood, passed down from my Dad, passed down from his Dad. It is my hope that the Legacy will continue on.....

Here’s where we’re headed...
At Legacy Farms, our main focus is breeding and raising show quality Fullblood Boer goats. We strive to maintain ABGA and IBGA standards with in our herd and are proud members of both organizations. And while our main focus is the goats, we do have an agreement on the pigs...Allie and I are able to keep them here on a 4 month “contract” . That means after show season is over, so is life on the farm for the pigs!

A tribute to my Dad, Jim Misiniec
To know him was to either love him or to hate him. He told it like it was and made NO apologies for hurt feelings. To many he was stubborn and bullheaded, yet most of the time (I hate to admit it) he was RIGHT and knew what he was talking about. He could make you laugh, he could make you cry and he could even make you mad as hell! I don’t think anybody could have ever prepared us for the huge hole he’d leave in our lives....He was jolly with his big belly and unmistakable with that red beard. He loved to laugh and have a good time especially with his family and many friends. He had a nickname for everybody from his grandson “Jeb” to his one of his best friends “ER”. He loved the stock shows, especially hogs. Growing up we didn’t go on vacations to a beach, we went to stock shows: big ones like The National Western & NAILE to small ones like the statewide jackpot hog shows. He couldn’t wait for the grandkids to get big enough to show! He passed just prior to seeing his oldest, Allie, begin 4-H. Although he’s gone, he is not forgotten! He’s in our hearts, on our minds and with us each step of the way. So, here’s to you Ampie... Thanks for making us PROUD!
